bio

Naomi Russell has an infectious and big personality. Her elite gymnastics career spanned 11 years during which time she held both QAS and AIS scholarships. Naomi received numerous medals at National Championships and has represented Australia on several occasions. The highlight of her career was representing Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games where she claimed a Gold medal with her Team and an individual Bronze on Vault, whilst placing 4th on Bars. Gymnastics hasn’t always been kind to Naomi as she was marred with many injuries over her career which unfortunately lead to her not reaching her full potential.

Naomi has coached elite gymnastics at the QAS and VIS and in 2014 she travelled to America to coach at the internationally renowned International Gymnastics Camp in Pennsylvania, where she learned extensive spotting techniques and was able to gain invaluable coaching experience with a vast range of gymnasts. Naomi enjoys coaching people who genuinely want to learn and improve. You will be guaranteed to have a laugh or two with Naomi during a session, but she is tough on the basics as she believes basics are the key for an athlete to attempt harder skills quicker and safely.

The below paragraph gives you an insight on the type of gymnast Naomi was.

Peggy Liddick former Head Coach of Australia wrote to Naomi post-Olympic trials;

I am thanking you for setting the bar even higher for what an athlete is willing to endure to at least give her goals a shot. Your “Never say Die” attitude has become our team mantra. I am thanking you for the tremendous role model you have become for many, many gymnasts. I am thanking you for just being you. You have brought many hours of pleasure for me as a coach and I have been privileged to work with you.

We are very excited to welcome Naomi to QPA as our Acrobatic Teacher.
